How to Free Up Storage on iPhone
By Srikanth V ·
Short answer
Go to Settings › General › iPhone Storage to see what uses the space and follow its suggestions. Photos and videos are usually the biggest part: remove duplicates, compress or delete large videos, and clear what you don't need, then empty Recently Deleted.
See what's using the space
- 1Open Settings › General › iPhone Storage.
- 2Wait for the bar to finish measuring, then look at the biggest apps.
- 3Follow the suggestions, such as Offload Unused Apps, which removes an app but keeps its data.
If you use iCloud Photos
Turn on Optimize iPhone Storage in Settings › your name › iCloud › Photos. Full-size originals stay in iCloud and smaller versions stay on your iPhone, downloaded when you open them.
Clear photos and videos with Lookpix
Lookpix's Clean Up shows how full your iPhone is and how much of it is photos, videos and files, with the biggest items first. From there:
Swipe Cleanup goes through your library a month at a time: left to delete, right to keep, with 200 free swipes. Duplicates finds exact copies and look-alikes. Compress Videos (Pro) makes smaller copies of your biggest videos.
Nothing is deleted without your say. Everything you remove goes to Recently Deleted.
Finish by emptying Recently Deleted
Deleted photos keep using space for 30 days. To get it back now, open Photos › Utilities › Recently Deleted, unlock it, tap Select and delete what you don't need for good. This can't be undone.
