How to Compress Videos on iPhone

By Srikanth V ·

Short answer

The Photos app can't compress a video. For new videos, choose Settings › Camera › Formats › High Efficiency and a lower resolution in Settings › Camera › Record Video. For videos you already have, use an app such as Lookpix to make smaller copies, then remove the originals.

Record smaller videos from now on

  1. 1Open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose High Efficiency (HEVC).
  2. 2Open Settings › Camera › Record Video and choose 1080p if you don't need 4K.
  3. 3A minute of 1080p takes a fraction of the space of 4K at 60 fps.

Shrink the videos you already have with Lookpix

Compress Videos, part of Lookpix Pro, lists your videos biggest first with the space each could save. Choose High (the same resolution in HEVC), Balanced (1080p HEVC, looks the same on a phone) or Small (720p, fine for sharing).

The smaller copy is saved next to the original with the same date, place and favorite. You then decide whether to remove the originals, which go to Recently Deleted.

  1. 1Open Clean Up in Lookpix and tap Compress Videos.
  2. 2Select videos and choose a size, checking the space you'll save.
  3. 3Tap Compress, then remove the originals when you're happy.

Stop scrolling. Start finding.

Search, sort and clean up everything on your iPhone. Free to start, and nothing leaves your phone.
